Publix Recalls Ice Cream after Dangerous Almond Mix-Up

The Georgia Department of Agriculture has issued a recall for Publix brand ice cream as a result of unlisted almonds in their Premium Light Tiramisu flavor.

According to Department of Agriculture commissioner Gary Black, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction upon consuming the product.

The recall reaches Publix Super Markets' five state operating areas of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. The product UPS code is 41415- 13343. The product lot code, which can be found on the bottom of the ice cream carton, is 'Sep 12 2011 B7 PLT 12-444.'

The Department of Agriculture reported that consumers should be on the lookout for mix-matched packaging, with a carton that features Premium Light Tiramisu but a lid that shows Coffee Almond Fudge Light. The dangerous mistake was brought to light after a savvy consumer identified the packaging error in a Publix store and alerted management.
