Consumers Suffer Zinc Poisoning After Denture Cream Use

 toothpaste

Recent findings have concluded that several types of denture adhesive products containing the mineral zinc, including Poligrip and Fixodent, may adversely impact consumer health. Denture adhesive cream manufacturers, including Procter & Gamble and GlaxoSmithKline, did not disclose the potential health risks associated with denture adhesive cream use.

As a result, more than 35 million Americans, who wear dentures, are unaware of the link between zinc poisoning and their denture cream. A very high percentage of this population that is at risk is the elderly, making them more vulnerable to the effects of zinc overdose. Chronic and excessive zinc intake can lead to unexplained weakness, numbness, and loss of sensation. If not detected early and treated, the effects of zinc poisoning can be permanent and cause neuropathy. Neuropathy symptoms include:

•· Extreme numbness or tingling

•· Loss of ability to move legs, feet, arms, or hands

•· Unexplained pain

•· Poor balance

•· Decrease in walking stride

If you or a loved one have been experiencing symptoms such as numbness, tingling along nerve pathways and hypersensitivity and you use Poligrip or Fixodent, you may have a case. Our compassionate and experienced team of product liability attorneys represent clients nationwide and will answer your questions free of charge.
